GSCI 221 - Mineralogy
Mineralogy Fall. (O) Prereqs.: GSCI 125 or GSCI 135 and CHEM 161 and CHEM 162 Study of minerals, their formation, occurrences, properties, composition, and classification. Topics include crystal chemistry, internal crystal structures. Optical and other physical properties, identification of crystal forms and mineral speciments, and an introduction to petrology. Three lectures and one three-hour laboratory per week. One or more one-day field trips. This course is equivalent to ESCI 221 and credit will not be earned if this course has been previously taken.
